Icy Sunrise

We have endured another mid-week two days of snow and ice storm. This morning I was delighted to see the beginnings of a sunrise. Dressing quickly while the car warmed up I took a drive along the coastline. The rising sun cast a beautiful color on the snow and the ice on the trees sparkled and reflected the color too. With all the snow plowed to the sides of the road and coated in ice it was dangerous walking out there. To get these first photographs I climbed on top of one of the really big piles made by a plow. I think it was worth it, what do you think?

Then I found this spot right between Milford and West Haven. All these low bushes looked like glass.

So worth the adventure out!

This is my favorite photograph from today. I plan to go see the sunset at the beach tonight, so maybe I will have more for later.

Snow Storm | Landscape Photography Connecticut

We are having record breaking amounts of snow this January! It makes for some very beautiful scenery, the hard part is digging your car out so you can get places to take photographs! This morning I took this photograph in my yard, during the great dig out.

Just about the time the driveway was finally clear enough to get a car out, I noticed the sky was a golden color. Decided to take a drive down to the beach to see if there was anything worth taking a photograph of. Found the sky was just beautiful with streaming light and the contrast between the dark clouds, strip of bright color and dark water was beautiful.

My world is being coated in ice today. I am hoping for some sunshine before it melts, because it will look like crystal.

A jalapeno pepper left on the plant as winter arrived completely encased in ice.

The roses leaves encased in ice looks like they are made of glass.

Did you see that incredible sunrise this morning? Sitting at my desk barely awake, I glanced out the window to see this ribbon of deep pink along the horizon. Such an incredible color I knew it would be worth it to get dressed and go out in the freezing cold to the shoreline. I was not disappointed at all!

Jewel Colors

I’ve had these colorful multi-color shot glasses for many years. They are one of my favorite things, so dainty and colorful. Today is a very bright wintry day, so I decided to do my daily photo inside by a very bright window. I like how the sunlight painted the colors across the white paper.

At the beginning of the summer we visited one of my favorite places in Connecticut, Elizabeth Park Rose Garden in Hartford. A truly beautiful place. One of the reasons for the visit was to photograph my daughter in her Alice in Wonderland dress – I will share those here at another time. This posting is about the flowers. As always when I am sharing images of something with a wonderful fragrance, I wish I could send the fragrance too. Roses for Peggy!

Yum! I have a huge section of these bushes – all from a couple straggly canes a neighbor gave me. The berries are like eating sweet sunshine. Trying to capture the bees and wasp was interesting because of the thorns, where I would normally just walk into the plants to get a better angle, these I needed patience for the insect to move closer. The bees and wasps also did not stay still for very long at any one flower – much like photographing toddlers!!

Seeds from my neighbors butterfly bushes have blown into our yard and we suddenly have these bushes popping up all along the side of the house. I love to see all the bees they attract because those bees are working hard pollinating all my vegetable plants and berry bushes.
